The Master Shepherd Arrives at Appuldurcombe House

There are some things every wedding needs but nobody really gets excited about.

Toilets have traditionally been one of them.

Until now.

Our brand-new Master Shepherd luxury shepherd's hut washroom recently took pride of place at a beautiful wedding at Appuldurcombe House, and it looked so at home amongst the historic ruins that we couldn't resist taking a few photographs.

Unlike a conventional plastic portable toilet or standard white toilet trailer, The Master Shepherd has been designed to become part of your wedding rather than something you're desperate to hide behind a hedge. With its shepherd's hut styling, timber finish and boutique interior, it blends naturally into country house venues, festival weddings and marquee receptions while giving guests a genuinely luxurious experience

A Wedding Venue Steeped in History

Appuldurcombe House is one of the Isle of Wight's most recognisable wedding venues.

Built during the early 18th century as the magnificent home of the Worsley family, the English Baroque house was once considered the grandest residence on the Island. Although now a romantic shell, its striking ruins, elegant stonework and Capability Brown-designed landscape provide one of the most atmospheric settings imaginable for an outdoor wedding. Today, the venue hosts exclusive Saturday weddings, allowing couples to celebrate amongst centuries of history in a truly unique setting.

It's no surprise that it's become one of our favourite venues to work at.

Where Should You Put the Washroom?

One question we're often asked is:

"Where should the toilet trailer go?"

The answer depends largely on where you're planning to say "I do."

If your ceremony is taking place inside the licensed ceremony room, positioning isn't particularly critical.

However, many couples choose to exchange vows amongst the famous ruins (weather permitting, of course), and that's where a little planning can make a big difference. Choosing the right location means your luxury washroom stays convenient for guests without unexpectedly appearing in every photograph of your ceremony.

Every Wedding is Different

Of course, these aren't the only three possibilities.

One of the advantages of a self-contained luxury washroom is that it offers plenty of flexibility.

There are just a couple of practical considerations:

The washroom requires a nearby electrical supply.
Access is needed for delivery and collection.

Sarah Matthews, the Isle of Wight’s leading wedding florist, is now exclusively with The Events Co.
She’ll continue designing bespoke wedding flowers and styling, while we manage the behind-the-scenes admin and planning.
Couples now get seamless access to florals, décor, and event services in one place.
Sarah will have a dedicated workspace with us later this year.
The Sarah Matthews brand remains – just with extra support and creative freedom.

If you're planning a wedding on the Isle of Wight, chances are you've already come across the name Sarah Matthews.

Known for her remarkable floral designs and eye for styling, Sarah has spent years creating unforgettable wedding spaces across the island.

We’re thrilled to announce that Sarah is now working exclusively with The Events Co as our in-house florist and stylist.

This isn’t a goodbye to Sarah Matthews Flowers – far from it. We’re preserving everything that couples love about her work, while offering a new level of support behind the scenes.

Sarah will continue to design and install the extraordinary floral arrangements she's known for, while The Events Co . team handles the logistics, marketing and admin – giving Sarah more time to focus on what she does best: creating breathtaking flowers and beautifully styled spaces.

This new setup is about collaboration. By bringing Sarah’s expertise into the heart of The Events Co, we’re combining two local forces under one roof. It means streamlined planning for our couples, access to one-of-a-kind styling, and the reassurance that your wedding flowers are in the safest of hands.

A Festive Hire Carol

On a blustery December evening, Ebenezer Cratchley sat by the flickering glow of his hearth, a solitary man in a grand, echoing house...

Though Christmas Eve, the thought of hosting guests at his table filled him with dread—not for the company, but for the state of his furniture, crockery, and silverware. The dining room, with its mismatched chairs and chipped plates, could scarcely seat his newfound acquaintances from the charitable so ciety.

“Bah, humbug!” he muttered, wrapping his threadbare dressing gown tighter. “It’s too late to do anything about it now!”

No sooner had he spoken than a cold draft swept through the room, extinguishing the fire. In the shadows appeared a glowing figure, resplendent in fine holiday garb, twinkling with golden fairy lights and holding an ornate serving tray.

“I am the Spirit of Festive Hosting!” it announced, its voice ringing like sleigh bells. “I come to show you the joys of a well-prepared Christmas gathering.”

With a wave of its hand, the room transformed before Ebenezer’s wide eyes. The dining table stretched out grandly, now clothed in crisp white linen. Around it stood elegant Chiavari chairs adorned with festive sashes. The sideboard sparkled with rows of polished silver cutlery, gleaming crystal glassware, and plates that looked as though they belonged in a palace.

“But... how?” gasped Ebenezer.

“It’s simple,” said the Spirit, its voice warm. “You need only call The Events Co. and peruse their Festive Hire service . Tables, chairs, crockery, cutlery, and even glassware—they deliver everything needed to elevate your gathering into a proper Christmas feast!”

The Spirit clapped its hands, and the vision shifted. Ebenezer saw himself, his table surrounded by friends and neighbors. Laughter rang out as they toasted with mulled wine, the table laden with fine food and the best of festive cheer. The once-dreaded gathering had become the highlight of the season.

When the clock struck midnight, Ebenezer woke, his heart full of resolve. “I’ll call The Events Co. first thing in the morning!” he declared.

And so he did. By Christmas Day, his home had been transformed. His guests arrived, marveling at the beautiful setup. They dined and celebrated long into the night, with Ebenezer at the center of it all, his heart as warm as the pudding fresh from the oven.

From that day forth, Ebenezer Cratchley was known as the merriest host of all, his parties legendary across the Isle of Wight. And every Christmas, he raised a glass to The Events Co.

Rustic heavy duty a-frame trestle tables

Create the look you want with our hand made trestle tables

At the Events Co we are always looking for that unique element that will transform your venue or add something special to your day. And it should be high quality and full of character. Not just something that has been thrown together and hired out at weddings for the last 10 years and showing every year of its life.

So, when we were thinking of the best way to offer table hire to our services, we wanted something in addition to the standard 5ft and 6ft rounds or the utilitarian moulded plastic folding trestles.

We wanted instant character, a rustic look and a feel of lasting, heavy duty. So, we decided we'd have to rouse our peeps in the workshop, pry the coffee cups out of their hands and get to work.

It took a while and much elbow grease to transform a lorry-load of used scaffolding boards into these great tables. We started by removing all old iron bands and then planed, sanded and cut the timber. But we didn't remove all the character and age. Many of the boards still bear the scars of their previous lives and that's what gives these tables their unique character.

Approximately 6ft long and 2ft6 wide, the tables will seat 8-10 people comfortably and you can use spread them around, use them in pairs or out them in long rows for that traditional banquet look.

Leave them blank or dress them with hessian and white lace runners. You can compliment them with our vintage style folding wooden chairs but they would also not look out of place surrounded by our lime-wash Chiavari chairs.

We currently have 26 of these tables in stock, in addition to the standard rounds and folding trestles, but as demand increases, we will continue to make more. They have proven to be extremely popular, much to the annoyance of our delivery guys who would prefer we take the 'heavy' out of heavy-duty!
